After the unexpected box office success of last year’s Raajneeti, a political drama with a huge star cast taking influences from Indian Mythology and the Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather, director and auteur Prakash Jha is back with his intense brand of cinema with Aarakshan (Reservation) starring Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Manoj Bajpai and Deepika Padukone. This time he tackles the issue of reservation, the practice of setting jobs and positions aside for certain social classes who were left behind as a remnant of the old Indian Caste based society, a bit like affirmative action but not entirely. So is Prakash Jha able to entertain and educate us? Does the chemistry of Deepika and Saif Ali Khan work wonders again after Love Aaj Kal? Review Kaakha Kaakha (and what should be fixed for its Hindi remake “Force”)

So this 2003 cop drama starring Surya, Jyotika and directed by Gautham Menon was available on Youtube (probably temporarily so check it out!) on some extremely shady channel but with some funtastic “paagal” subtitles. Having lamented the fact that there is no proper distribution system set up for South Indian movies, making it impossible to be completely up to date with new releases. I take any chance I get to catch up with this flamboyant film genre. Releasing in September in a Hindi remake directed by Nishikanth Kamat starring John Abraham and Genelia. FilmBlog: Chaalbaaz (1989)- SriDeviPalooza

When we agreed to have a celebration week for Sridevi, the movie I instantly wanted to re-watch to see the full power of the undisputed queen of the Bollywood 80’s was the 1989 Pankaj Parashar directed Chaalbaaz. Supertight: Get him to the Greek! Music Video

Get him to the Greek is releasing the 25th in UK, there’s a quite a few favorably reviews coming from the US where the movie opened up to moderately good numbers.

Altough viral video‘s are nothing new in the arsenal of movie marketeers, I wanted to post this as I do have a fondness for Russel Brand even though most English have now started despising him. But then again I’m not English.

Check out his video with some very funny altough NSFW lyrics.Read More »Supertight: Get him to the Greek! Music Video

Adidas: Star Wars Celebrity Cantina

With the Football world cup just around the corners a lot of brands are upping their advertisement coverage. Living in England , we get inundated by cheap gimmicky ads with C-level footballers (I am talking to you Mars) so it’s quite refreshing when Adidas manages to hit the right tone of geekiness and celebrity appearnace withouth loosing “cool points”. Here’s the latest Star Wars ad inspired by the Cantina scene featuring Snoop Dogg, Daft Punk, Jay Baruchel, one of the Gallaghers and David Beckham. (or as I like calling him, Beckman) Check out the ad after the jump:Read More »Adidas: Star Wars Celebrity Cantina

Animated Parkour

Since I saw a small newsreel about a new form of entertainment created in the banlieue’s of Paris, I have pretty much been obsessed with Free Running or Parkour. Then came Yamakasi and both of the District B-13 movies (Banlieue 13)

A past-time for bored kids that has slowly turned into a global phenomenon partly because of the Bourne movies and the James Bond reboot, Casino Royale. Check out a Parkour video after the jump as you have never seen it before.
