Episode 30 of the Khandaan podcast stars Aamir Khan in a movie directed by Kiran Rao – 2011’s Dhobi Ghat with Prateik Babbar, Monica Dogra, and Kriti Malhotra. Joining us to discuss this surprise winner (the other movies up for votes this week included Dabangg and My Name is Khan) is the BBC’s Ashanti Omkar, who has a personal connection to the film. Dhobi Ghat proved to be an interesting topic for conversation, more so because it raised some important points about context and intent in art and cinema; and how perceptions can change over time.
We also discuss a few new projects: Sujoy was the only one to watch Isn’t It Romantic, the new Rebel Wilson romcom co-starring Priyanka Chopra, and he has some non-spoilery thoughts. On the topic of PC, we also discuss Sucker, the brand new single by the Jonas Bros. co-starring their significant others (including Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner). We also have a few things to say about KGF, the big Kannada movie creating waves across India, and Super Deluxe, an upcoming Tamizh movie.
Also, keep an eye out for a special episode on Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. We’re bringing back our Curious Cat for it and welcome all questions and comments.
