Pan Official Poster

Peter Pan’s isn’t one of those characters that is near and dear to our hearts although we did enjoy Hook when it came out (BANGERANG) but it seems to be a real gold mine for film makers to keep going back to.

Pan, the upcoming live-action family adventure set for release on 16 October 2015 directed by Joe Wright (Atonement) starring Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara, Amanda Seyfried, Cara Delevingne and newcomer Levi Miller seems to be a pre-quel of sorts.

From the Synopsis:

Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, the action adventure follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny—to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan.

American Sniper Review and Oscar Predictions

’tis the season to be Oscar.  Asim and Martin take aim and set their sights on Clint Eastwood’s latest target, American Sniper.  The most successful war movie of all time has taken America by storm, smashing box office records left, right and centre.  And of course yet more potential Oscar glory for its esteemed director.  Released this week in the UK, it remains to be seen if it can repeat its performance overseas.

Starring Bradley Cooper – looking super-manly with beard and huge muscles – and a barely recognisable Sienna Miller, American Sniper is based on the autobiography of Chris Kyle a US Navy SEAL who served multiple tours of duty in Iraq.  Taking to life in the armed forces like a duck to water, it’s the hum drum of everyday family life that asks the most difficult questions of our leading man.

This movie probably works best if you’re completely out of the picture as to our sniper’s life, both in and out of the SEALs, but we shall let you know if it hits the bulls eye or if it’s wide of the mark.  OK, That’s enough shooting related jokes for now.  Check out the trailer below!

Jersey Boys Infographic

To celebrate last week’s release of Clint Eastwood’s JERSEY BOYS, Warner Bros. Pictures is pleased to make available an exclusive JERSEY BOYS infographic. JERSEY BOYS stars Christopher Walken, John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda and Vincent Piazza and is in cinemas now.

Jersey Boys infographic

From director Clint Eastwood comes the big-screen version of the Tony Award-winning musical “Jersey Boys.”

The film tells the story of four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic 1960s rock group The Four Seasons.  The story of their trials and triumphs are accompanied by the songs that influenced a generation, including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Dawn,” “Rag Doll,” “Bye Bye Baby,” “Who Loves You,” and many more.

These classic hits are now being embraced by a new generation of fans through the stage musical, which has been running on Broadway for more than eight years and has also enjoyed successful tours around the globe.

Starring in the film, John Lloyd Young reprises his Tony Award-winning portrayal of the legendary lead singer of The Four Seasons, Frankie Valli.  Erich Bergen stars as Bob Gaudio, who wrote or co-wrote all of the group’s biggest hits.  Michael Lomenda and Vincent Piazza star respectively as Nick Massi and Tommy DeVito, two original members of The Four Seasons.  Oscar® winner Christopher Walken (“The Deer Hunter”) stars as mobster Gyp DeCarlo.

Oscar® winner Eastwood (“Million Dollar Baby,” “Unforgiven”) directed “Jersey Boys” from a screenplay and musical book by Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, song music by Bob Gaudio and lyrics by Bob Crewe.  The film is produced by Eastwood, Graham King and Robert Lorenz, with Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tim Moore, Tim Headington, Brett Ratner, James Packer and Steven Mnuchin serving as executive producers.

The behind-the-scenes creative team was led by Academy Award®-nominated director of photography Tom Stern (“Changeling”); Academy Award®-nominated production designer James J. Murakami, (“Changeling”); Oscar®-winning editor Joel Cox (“Unforgiven”) and editor Gary D. Roach; and costume designer Deborah Hopper.

300: Rise of An Empire Behind The Scenes Featurette

Quite a few interesting tid bits about the forthcoming sequel of 300, firstly that it isn’t really a sequel but a movie about concurrent events. This time we follow the Athenian navy as they battle the onslaught of Persian God/King Xerxes.

Some might get a direct- to -dvd feel for this movie especially with none of the main cast returning but I think the visuals and the world building does show some promise. And of course Eva Green is in here being a bad ass which always tickles our fancy.

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

“300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present, a Cruel and Unusual Films/Mark Canton/Gianni Nunnari Production, “300: Rise of an Empire.”  The action adventure stars Sullivan Stapleton (“Gangster Squad”) as Themistokles and Eva Green (“Dark Shadows,” “Casino Royale”) as Artemisia.  Lena Headey reprises her starring role from “300” as the Spartan Queen, Gorgo; Hans Matheson (“Clash of the Titans”) stars as Aeskylos; David Wenham returns as Dilios, and Rodrigo Santoro stars again as the Persian King, Xerxes.

The film is directed by Noam Murro, from a screenplay by Zack Snyder & Kurt Johnstad, based on the graphic novel Xerxes, by Frank Miller.  It is produced by Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Bernie Goldmann.  Thomas Tull, Frank Miller, Stephen Jones and Jon Jashni serve as executive producers.

300: Rise of An Empire hits screen in 3D and 2D in select theatres and IMAX beginning March 7, 2014

Edge Of Tomorrow Trailer, Images and Poster: Tom Cruise’s Source Code GroundHog Day

The Trailer for Edge Of Tomorrow just landed in our inbox with this pretty awesome looking one sheet. Tom Cruise has been on a sci fi trip lately, and although his previous release Oblivion had some issues it had some pretty interesting ideas and amazing visuals.

Both these elements seem to be part of Edge Of Tomorrow together with a great collaborators like Doug Liman directing a script by Christopher Mcquarrie, based on the acclaimed novel All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

Emily Blunt his co-star also has the ability to be thoroughly wonderful in everything she appears.

Here is the Trailer, some images, a One Sheet poster and the PR Synopsis:

Synopsis:

The epic action of ‘Edge of Tomorrrow’ unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.

Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission.  Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt).  And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

The international cast also includes Bill Paxton (“Aliens,” HBO’s “Big Love”), Kick Gurry (Australian TV’s “Tangle”), Dragomir Mrsic (“Snabba Cash II”), Charlotte Riley (“World Without End”), Jonas Armstrong (BBC TV’s “Robin Hood”), and Franz Drameh (“Attack the Block”).
Liman is directing “Edge of Tomorrow” from a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie and Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth, based on the acclaimed novel All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.  Erwin Stoff produces, along with Tom Lassally, Jason Hoffs, Gregory Jacobs and Jeffrey Silver.  The executive producers are Doug Liman, Dave Bartis, Joby Harold, Hidemi Fukuhara, and Bruce Berman, with Kim Winther and Tim Lewis serving as co-producers.

The behind-the-scenes team includes Academy Award®-winning director of photography Dion Beebe (“Memoirs of a Geisha”), production designer Oliver Scholl (“Jumper,” “Independence Day”), editor James Herbert (“Sherlock Holmes,” “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”), costume designer Kate Hawley (upcoming “Pacific Rim”), and Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor Nick Davis (“The Dark Knight”). “Edge of Tomorrow” is the first motion picture to be shot at the recently christened Warner Bros. Man Of Steel Banner Posters

We received these beautiful Banner posters for Man Of Steel and I just had to share them.

Not much to say much else as I’m going officially not going to watch any promo material anymore until the movie comes out to remain spoiler free.

But these were just too awesome not to share.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures comes “Man of Steel,” starring Henry Cavill (“Immortals,” TV’s “The Tudors”) in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, under the direction of Zack Snyder (“300,” “Watchmen”).

A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth.  As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do.  But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.

The film also stars four-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Master”) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White.  Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (“Unfaithful”) and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”).

Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”), and Faora, Zod’s evil partner, played by Antje Traue (upcoming “The Seventh Son”).  Also from Superman’s native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, played by Ayelet Zurer (“Angels and Demons”), and Superman’s father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”).

MAN OF STEEL will fly into cinemas on June 14, 2013

Some Like It Hot

Some Like it Hot.

I know which one I'd sleep with

Although in Britain this “summer” we seem to like it mild and a bit damp. A members exclusive screening at the BFI seems like the perfect kick-off to a month of intense viewing on London’s Southbank. Part of the joy I guess, about seeing these old movies on the big screen is that I get to see films I have already seen on TV and in this case, seen on TV a long time ago. I get to re-assess my initial reaction as a teenager; now with a far greater volume of movies watched and in theory much more knowledge of moviemaking and movies.

As for the movie itself, it has “must watch” written all over it. The opening scenes echo the Warner Bros. gangster films of the ’30s and as the film unfolds, the gender stereotypes of ’50s America are gently subverted; anticipating the revolution that the ’60s would bring. This sounds quite serious, but the reality of Some like It Hot is the genius comedy brought to the screen. Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis play Gerry and Joe / Daphne and Josephine (and Shell Oil Junior) , two broke musicians on the run from the mob after having witnessed a Valentine’s Day massacre in Chicago. The only way to escape is to join an all female jazz band who have a 3 week gig in Florida; meeting Marilyn Monroe‘s Sugar Kane (a ukulele player with a taste for liquor and sax players) along the way.

Will their true identities be revealed, will they escape from the mob? In the end this conceit becomes irrelevant – the sheer brilliance of the physical humour (men dressed as women, what’s not to find hilarious?) and the interaction between Sugar, Daphne and Josephine is all we really need. The lightness of touch by Billy Wilder is remarkable – the screenplay and direction of the 3 main protagonists seems so natural despite the obviously unreal scenario and I was stunned when I found out the movie pushes just over the 2 hour mark. Very much a case of “oh really, a 2 hour movie?” as opposed to “oh no, a 2 hour movie”.

If you’re looking for a true classic to cross off your list, with a great director, great actors and that is pure entertainment, then your search is over. Thoroughly recommended.

Lego The Movie

Don't leave us in pieces after the movie

Some interesting news greeted my inbox today and I’m not at all sure of where I stand on this one. In fact, even thinking of standing on Lego brings back painful childhood memories – especially when you step right on the corner of a little square block in bare feet.

So, back to the movie…the studio behind Lego The Movie* is Warner Bros. and a release date has been set for 2014. Notably, the movie is expected to be an animation / live action hybrid. Quite what this will really entail is anyone’s guess, but if anyone can show me a good and/or successful film in this format, since Who Framed Roger Rabbit? way back when, then I’d love to know.

Does this make me a sceptic? Yes, of course it does; but that’s only because I have the best of interests at heart. I loved and still love, Lego the toy and I think the Lego computer games are brilliant. I just want a decent movie out of this project; enough that I won’t feel like a total and utter victim for paying to see this when you can imagine the field day that marketing execs in both companies will have in the run up to the release. If Lego already make good toys (and computer games) associated with other movies – Star Wars, Batman, Hippy Puffer etc – then their own merch for their own film ought to be so good that a kid’s brain melts just by seeing the ads on TV.

With the apparent 3 year wait for a green light now over, casting for the human roles is expected to commence in January 2012. Aussie company Animal Logic (Happy Feet) has been lined-up to produce the effects and further details about the story and plot are expected to be released at some point next week. It is thought that production will also begin next week. If you’re not sure what Lego is (really, is there anyone?) then check out this clip…it’s also a really introduction to Eddie Izzard.

Green Lantern for Newbies

One of the major reasons it can be daunting for casual comic book fans to get back into comics or start reading a new character is just the ton of back story and continuity you have to be aware of. Honestly that´s one for the reasons I havent´t gotten back into the Flash even though I hear Geoff Jons has done some great work with the character.

Since there are more and more superhero movies releasing, viewers could end up with the same problem. Some know Superman, some know Batman, but not everyone might know the ins and outs of Green Lantern. So in anticipation of the upcoming movie release Warner Bros. has released a video  for Newbies. Giving us the low down of the characters, the superpowers and what makes the Lantern corp so special.

For fans there are quite a few shots from the movie nothing you havent already seen in the trailer but always interesting to see how they adapted a lof of the sometimes hard to grasp concept.

For the ladies (and some fellas) I guess there is quite a bit of Ryan Reynolds so still worth a watch. And better to be prepared when the nerdier part of the couple starts geeking out after dragginf you to the movies as the release of this much anticipated movie is just around the corner.
