Batman V Superman Dawn Of Justice Review

We bring out the big guns for this one. Critically derided but a massive box office hit, where does the Upodcast team stand on Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice which sorta a sequel to Man Of Steel but also a set up for the forthcoming DC Justice League Universe.

Joined by @Bollybrit and @9e3k we keep it low on spoilers (until minute 45) but high on profanity.

During the episode we talk about a deleted scene, if you haven’t seen it yet, here it is:

Pan Official Poster

Peter Pan’s isn’t one of those characters that is near and dear to our hearts although we did enjoy Hook when it came out (BANGERANG) but it seems to be a real gold mine for film makers to keep going back to.

Pan, the upcoming live-action family adventure set for release on 16 October 2015 directed by Joe Wright (Atonement) starring Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara, Amanda Seyfried, Cara Delevingne and newcomer Levi Miller seems to be a pre-quel of sorts.

From the Synopsis:

Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, the action adventure follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny—to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan.

300 Rise of an Empire Review Upodcast

Almost a decade after dining in hell, we revisit the CGI vision of ancient Greece set through the eyes of Zach Snyder and Frank Miller. Ad Film maker, Noam Murro takes over the directing reigns with returning cast members Rodrigo Santoro, Lena Headley and David Wenham together with new additions Sullivan Stapleton and Eva Green.

Were they able to recreate the CGI magic? Or should this sequel have found a better home on DVD?

The Box office suggest otherwise with respectable 147M (and counting at the box office). We break it down for you in this episode of Upodcast.

300: Rise of An Empire Behind The Scenes Featurette

Quite a few interesting tid bits about the forthcoming sequel of 300, firstly that it isn’t really a sequel but a movie about concurrent events. This time we follow the Athenian navy as they battle the onslaught of Persian God/King Xerxes.

Some might get a direct- to -dvd feel for this movie especially with none of the main cast returning but I think the visuals and the world building does show some promise. And of course Eva Green is in here being a bad ass which always tickles our fancy.

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

“300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present, a Cruel and Unusual Films/Mark Canton/Gianni Nunnari Production, “300: Rise of an Empire.”  The action adventure stars Sullivan Stapleton (“Gangster Squad”) as Themistokles and Eva Green (“Dark Shadows,” “Casino Royale”) as Artemisia.  Lena Headey reprises her starring role from “300” as the Spartan Queen, Gorgo; Hans Matheson (“Clash of the Titans”) stars as Aeskylos; David Wenham returns as Dilios, and Rodrigo Santoro stars again as the Persian King, Xerxes.

The film is directed by Noam Murro, from a screenplay by Zack Snyder & Kurt Johnstad, based on the graphic novel Xerxes, by Frank Miller.  It is produced by Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Bernie Goldmann.  Thomas Tull, Frank Miller, Stephen Jones and Jon Jashni serve as executive producers.

300: Rise of An Empire hits screen in 3D and 2D in select theatres and IMAX beginning March 7, 2014

Man Of Steel Upodcast Review and Criticism surrounding the movie

Maybe a bit late out of the gate but our geek hearts were still aching to talk about Zach Snyder’s Man Of Steel. Together with Paresh from the CurrySmugglers (check out their latest awesome episode by clicking here) and Sujoy AKA @9e3k we finally get to discuss this new version of the son of Krypton, after Bryan Singer’s failed attempt.

Although the movie has had a massive box office draw, there is talk of sequels, rebooting other DC properties to eventually come to a Justice League movie.

As most Snyder movies Man of Steel has been surrounded by quite a bit of criticism coming understandable as the character is one that we all have grown up with and are quite attached to.

So we specifically wanted to adress some of the major complaints about the movie and what we thought about them.

300: Rise of an empire

The rise of an empire

The stylistically-gory trailer for 300: Rise of an empire has just been released and Upod has also been given some cracking new posters for it.   Sequel to the hugely successful 300, these posters re-capture the original’s aesthetic and make me wish March 2014 was just around the corner.  One of very few trailers to genuinely make me want to see the movie, if you loved the first one, then check out the trailer below.  In fact even if you didn’t, you should have a look, it really has got me itching to see it already.

The Red Sea

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. “300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemesia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

The film is directed by Noam Murro, from a screenplay by Zack Snyder & Kurt Johnstad, based on the graphic novel Xerxes, by Frank Miller.

Man Of Steel Trailer is ZOMG!

Already my most anticipated movie of the year, this trailer has just left me speechless. Showing us much more of the action, visuals and leading man Cavill (literally).

Since the release is just around the corner, it’s fun to see that the movie is more than just a depressing look at ole Supes. We get to see more of Michael Shannon’s Zod, Amy Adam’s Lois Lane and Russel Crow’s Jor-EL.

Zach Snyder has always had a great eye for visuals but this trailer has really blown me away!

You probably dont need a synopsis but hey ho!

A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth.  As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do.  But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.

The film also stars four-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Master”) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White.  Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (“Unfaithful”) and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”).

Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”), and Faora, Zod’s evil partner, played by Antje Traue (upcoming “The Seventh Son”).  Also from Superman’s native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, played by Ayelet Zurer (“Angels and Demons”), and Superman’s father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”).

MAN OF STEEL will fly into cinemas on June 14, 2013.

The Iceman Trailer and Poster

You might think that this was going to be a new Marvel Superhero movie but lucky for us it’s Michael Shannon “icing” people with a gun.

As soon as I read the words Michael Shannon plays a contract killer I was in, being a huge fan of his work from Boardwalk Empire although I seem to have missed most of his big screen work. He does have a major role in Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel later this year but looking at the trailer, the cast and the accolades the movie has already received, the Iceman releasing in the UK june 7th and based on real events definitely is one to look forward to.

The Iceman is the story of real-life mob hitman Richard “The Iceman” Kuklinski, who was reportedly responsible for over 200 murders.

Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon) and his wife Deborah (Winona Ryder) appear to have a model American life, living with their three children in an idyllic suburban ranch house with a big lawn on a quiet street. But unbeknownst to Deborah and the kids, when Kuklinski goes off to work in the morning — or, on occasion, in the middle of dinner or the middle of the night — he is carrying out executions at the behest of the Gambino crime family, employing a wide variety of deadly methods (guns, knives, explosives, strangling, poisonings) that make it difficult to trace all the fatalities to a single killer. The Iceman shows the development of Kuklinski’s career from the 1950s through the 1980s, chronicling his friendship with Gambino soldato Roy DeMeo (Ray Liotta), his mentorship under assassin Robert “Mister Softee” Pronge (Chris Evans), and his troubled relationship with his brother Joseph (Stephen Dorff), who, like Richard, was plagued by sociopathic tendencies all his life.
