X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Marvel Phase 2 Review Upodcast

This time we’re attempting to unpick and unravel the ever expanding Marvel universe of superheroes and shine a light on what was previously a sub-genre restricted to Superman and Batman and therefore DC.

All levels of geekdom are catered for, ranging from the casual viewer / person best representing his parents’ generation through to the fully formed, limited edition boxset-buying expert and whatever lies in between!

On the show we are joined by Paresh from the CurrySmuggler and Sujoy AKA @9e3k from Bollypop.in and OneKnightStands.

With phase 2 completed for Marvel, what else remains? Certainly a bit of a fight back from DC, whose Batman v Superman hits screens next year

    • Could it be possible that we have (at least for the moment) hit saturation point with Marvel?
    • Have we indeed hit “peak Marvel”?
    • It’s worth consideration and not without some pitfalls along the way: where are the female led characters such as Black Widow and Wasp going to end up, how are they being portrayed?
    • What becomes of Hulk, Spiderman and the re-booted Fantastic Four- how the hell do they fit in?

We preview Marvel’s phase 3 and tell you what’s coming, what’s hot and what’s possibly not!

You can also join the game of best scene from the various phase 2s and tell us where we all went wrong…there’s NO WAY that’s the best scene, they cannot be serious!

A Ronin Story- The Wolverine Featurette

A short featurette about Hugh Jackman’s 6th* reprisal of The Wolverine character gives us a peak into the story and some new images that weren’t in the trailer.

It really looks like they went back to what audiences like about the character to make this movie and I never thought i would be so psyched to see this.

Synopsis:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

The Wolverine New Stills and Trailer

We hadn’t had a chance to post The Wolverine’s new trailer that got posted last week but since we received some new images, we didn’t want to let go of the opportunity.

Looking like a vast improvement than the X-men Origins, the introductory voice over does have a bit of Highlander to it, complaining about immortality and the burden it is.

Some of the CGI still looks iffy to me even more so in the trailer but I think Jackman really does bring it this time and the Japanese setting is definitely a fan favorite.

The Wolverine- New Images

Being a huge fan of the X-men comics as well as Hugh Jackman as an actor, his 2009 solo outing X-Men Origins: Wolverine was such a disspointing movie that I quite watching anything with Jackman in it (except for Real Steel but I choose to forget that).

Having learned their lesson and Jackman showing some real affection for the character, they have roped in James Mangold for the sequel as well as set in fan favorite Japan- based adventrues of Logan.

Releasing this summer, we have some exclusive images and it already looks better than anything we saw before, although the CGI claws still look a bit iffy!

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, The Wolverine finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.

Cast: Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee and Tao Okamoto
