Ep 58- Duplicate

Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast is back with Top Friend Beth from Beth Loves Bollywood to discuss 1998’s Shahrukh Khan double-header DUPLICATE.
Allegedly directed by Mahesh Bhatt, DUPLICATE was the first double role for SRK and he really put in the effort – but was it worth it? Beth finds herself in the unique position of having more nostalgia for a film than the other three for once.
Co-starring a radiant Juhi Chawla, an inept and badly sabotaged Sonali Bendre, a friendzoned Mohnish Behl. a loud Farida Jalal, and the cheapest villain’s lair ever seen on film, DUPLICATE gave us a lot to discuss. Join us as we put more thought into the discussion of this film than Mahesh Bhatt did to its direction and find out for once and for all just how much Asim loves Salman.
A short timeline:
  • 00.11.02 Beth is watching I, CLAUDIUS for (another) podcast joke purposes and rewatching COMMUNITY and recommends y’all do so as well.
  • 00.23.10 Sujoy watched the Chris Hemsworth Netflix action movie, EXTRACTION.
  • 00.26.45 Amrita has seen some stuff but she doesn’t remember any of it, so never mind. She recommends you watch Bon Appetit.

  • 00.40.32 The Main Review: DUPLICATE.

Ep 29- Gully Boy/ Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi

Episode 29 of the Khandaan podcast has arrived with 1991’s Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, starring Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, this remake of the beloved Hollywood classic It Happened One Night was a star vehicle for two enfant terribles of the age — Bhatt, who was setting Bollywood on fire with her unconventional antics, and Khan, who was tipped to be the next big thing.

We also discuss two hot new releases: Shelley Chopra Dhar’s Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, starring father-daughter duo Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor along with Rajkumar Rao and Juhi Chawla. It is probably the most high profile LGBTQ film to have come out of the Hindi film industry in a while (not forgetting 2016’s Kapoor & Sons, which was a very different film). You can hear more about it here on the Upodcast interview with the director.

The second new release we discuss is, of course, the movie that has fast become the talk of the town: Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz, and Kalki Koechlin. Based on the real life journey of street rappers Divine and Naezy, this movie is attracting almost universal love.

Karan Johar and the cast of Student Of the Year Upodcast Interview

For the promotion of Student of the year, Karan Johar accompanied by Sid Malhotra,Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt flew over to London to talk to the UK press and Upodcast was invited.

If you have ever seen a full press conference it’s pretty hard to get a non rehearsed answer out of the celebrities especially so if they have the quick wit and verbal prowess of Karan Johar, nevertheless we had a 1 one 1 interview where we could ask a few more personal questions.

Student of the Year is in theaters from today and I hope you enjoy our interview with Karan and the rest of the cast.
