Ep 56- Streaming with Suchin – Ko Rona Aa Gaya

Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast is back with another Corona Cast for those of you who’re stuck at home and would like to hear other people’s voices.
We are joined this episode by Suchin Mehrotra of Film Companion fame. If you’ve been following his show on YouTube, you know Suchin is the man you want to talk to regarding streaming content during this time. The resulting conversation was rather too long and looped back and forth quite a bit, so we don’t have a timeline for you, but we do have a list of topics we discussed:
– Muskurayega India – absolutely unintended hilarity from Bollywood
– Suchin has many thoughts on the Raikar Case on Voot
– Tales from the Loop
– Asim is watching Bosch, and he is the only one in the entire universe
– Indian Comedy on Amazon Prime: but why?
– Pushpavalli
– Operation MBBS
– Asim is now an expert on Yo Yo Honey Singh
– Dax Shepherd and the male obsession with male bodies (this makes more sense when you hear it, I swear) Link
– Family: the best Bollywood content to have come out during the plague?
– Say Yes to the Dress UK: Curvy Bride Boutique
– Bong Eats on YouTube featuring some (well deserved) humble bragging from Asim
– The Wine Show with Mathew Goode and Matthew Rhys  / Travel Man with Richard Ayoade / James May: Our Man in Japan
– DIY videos: The Weekender on YouTube
– Sujoy saw Cake, a movie from Pakistan
– Ronin / Avengers / Shadow
– Sujoy recommends we all rewatch Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes movies
– Kim’s Convenience
– Schitt’s Creek
– Maqbool
– Tiger King
– Money Heist

Ep 55: Mela (That’s it!)

Episode 54 of Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast is takes us back to regular programming with 2000’s (!) MELA starring Aamir Khan, Twinkle Khanna, Faisal Khan, and the regular acting troupe of director Dharmesh Darshan. This megaflop from the turn of the century is something of a niche classic featuring tropes we haven’t seen in A-list Bollywood since the 1980s. A fitting welcome to our brand new, plague-ridden century.

In Thai, the word for the number five is pronounced HA, and this movie is full on LOL when it is not WTF, so we invited one of our top friends, Pitu Sultan, to partake in our episode 55. You can also find Pitu on Instagram @pitusultan or catch her very 555 show KAPOW! WITH PITU on YouTube.

The Main Review: MELA of our lives, featuring heaving bosoms, armpit panties, Durga hai meri maa, and loads of other drama.

We were gonna discuss more stuff but once this train got going, we realized it was an express train and would not stop at any other stations for the duration, so that was that. Watch out for our next Corona Cast for the other good stuff.

Ep 54- Khandaan Ko Rona Aa Gaya- She, Emma and Afsos

Episode 54 of Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast is a Quarantine Pod, a RonaCast, a Viral Episode, whatever you want to call it. Just Asim, Sujoy and Amrita shooting the breeze about the content they’ve been consuming over these days of social distancing. Remember, we need to maintain a physical social distance but we’ll only make it through these dark times with each other. So tune in every other week for one of our shorter Rona episodes which we’ll intersperse between our regular programming.

A Short Timeline:

00.53 Corona Pre-Amble: How we have been coping, what we are thinking of doing once this pandemic scare is over and how to pick new books to read?
18.53 – Sujoy is our most adventurous Khandaani who brings you news of The Wailing from South Korea, The Platform from Spain, and our apna Afsos
32.50 – Amrita is still self medicating with episodes of Agatha Christie’s Poirot but made the effort to watch the new adaptation of Emma. She has also been reading a lot and is currently reading Raymond E. Feist’s Empire trilogy from the Riftwar Cycle.
45.19 – Asim stumps for Stumptown, which is fast developing a reputation in niche circles, as well as the miniseries Devs, and explores some new Netflix shows like Dave Chang’s Ugly Delicious and Imtiaz Ali’s She.

Ep 53- Khandaan Ko Rona Aa Gaya – Saajan

Episode 53 of Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast is your refuge from the monotony of lockdown, wherever you might be experiencing it. Top Friend Beth rejoins us for the second dose of bitter medicine as Sujoy chooses his winner for the FilmFare challenge: 1991’s SAAJAN starring Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Madhuri Dixit with Reema Laagoo, Kader Khan, Laxmikant Berde and others. This take on Cyrano de Bergerac is a real trip back to the 1980s with music by Nadeem Shravan, choreography by Chinni Prakash, lyrics by Sameer, produced by Sudhakar Bokade, and directed by Lawrence D’Souza. We drag Beth back to the hellscape of our childhood to thoroughly discuss why we made her watch a movie that sapped her will to live in these difficult times.
Question: are we now a Madhuri Dixit podcast? And would La Dixcast be the worst thing?
A Short Timeline:
00.55 – COVID-19 sucks and so do all our governments: a short story
14.45 – Quarantine content – a quick look at what we’re all watching while cooped up
40.05 – The Main Review: SAAJAN
